The Maiden’s Tower

The Maiden’s Tower has a history of 2500 years, and was used for defensive purposes during Roman and Byzantine times. The tower, which was also used for defense and celebrations in the Ottoman period, was burnt down in 1719 and went under extensive renovation by Nevşehirli İbrahim Paşa in 1725. After extensive restoration during the reign of Sultan Mahmud the 2nd, the tower took its final shape in the mid 20th century. A red light flashes every 3 seconds on the stone tower on the rocks 180 meters away from the shore between Harem and Salacak.
